The Happiness in Summer: Eating for Sweating



A few days later, we would get into the hottest time of the year. In northern area of China, people always say that we should eat dumpling during this time. It seems that people should eat dumplings at every important solar term. Except the need of the traditional customs, the dumpling may have its important significance in the aspect of the physiology, sweating for example.

In summer, the traditional Chinese medicine always tells the people that they should prevent sweating heavily. However, in the city with so many air-conditioners, people still need to sweet in order to keep health. Therefore, it is reasonable to eat dumpling, noodle and some hot foods in the hottest time of the year.

You may want to know why people still eat those hot foods in the hot summer days. The reason is for dehumidification. In some districts of China, the local people would see the sweating as a cool experience.

Just like the people in northern of China eating dumpling in the summer, the people in southern area of China often like to eat hot pepper. In addition, the reason is also dehumidification. The so-called humidity may be just the sweat. So sometimes we eat just for sweating.
