Real Man's Cuisine: Caesar's Asparagus

Western people have been eating asparagus for two thousand years. However, Chinese began to eat this kind of food only recently. It seems like that from an unknown summer in an unknown year, this expensive vegetable, asparagus, emerged on the vegetable markets. From then, asparagus becomes indispensable when it is in season.
Asparagus and meat, perfect match

Why we call asparagus the real man's cuisine? To answer this question, we should know some history knowledge about ancient Rome and Caesar.
The making of asparagus is easy

In ancient Rome, being special about the flavor of food could be seen as lack of the man spirit. The rough salted fish and very acid olive were seen as real men's foods. History book has recorded one time when Caesar ate asparagus. The asparagus was not made in common way. However, the asparagus was added with myrrh instead of olive oil. All the friends of Caesar didn’t eat this dish and only Caesar ate this entire dish usually. Maybe only the people who are not specific about food can become heroes at last.

Asparagus was also an important medical plant in ancient Rome. Health preserving was very popular at that time. In addition, asparagus would be boiled with wine, beet and other plants together. We cannot imagine the real taste of this food nowadays.

Due to the shape of the asparagus, it is also seen as the medicine to treat the infertility. You just imagine the reason. ^^
